Filomena Oppido’s art is a ‘feminine’ art in the sense that it is rich in feminine contents, yet not poor in expressiveness. By satisfying an overwhelming fantastic and dream-like urge, the artist analyses her woman’s identity. Sometimes she is wild and aggressive; sometimes she is meek and sublime. What she aims at is an interiorization of both animality and spirituality coexisting in multiple expressive shapes made of variegated spaces and times, where colours perfectly convey her emotional intimism of her own search. Yet, her paintings are always transparent and permeable to the human eye since the passion and instinct underlying them do not close their eyes to ideality and sense. This is the artist’s task when she is called to universalise dormant contents belonging to everybody, that is to make the world recognize a hidden universe darkened by reality, which trap dreams. Thus, Ms Oppido gives brightness and excellence to that melting pot of state of minds in turmoil; these states also turn out to be rather silent before they are given shape on the canvas by means of smooth forms and vibrant colours to solve our existential contradictions. Therefore, the artist can be seen as a sort of ‘sleeping beauty’ who, while elaborating the wakening kiss, gently and constantly reminds us how significant trusting in the elective metamorphosis of human beings is to feel alive and kicking.

Contrasts. Since her colours can speak, whisper and scream. Since they can caress and scratch. What you can always feel is this surge of love, this fit of hate making them alive and real. Fire and earth are a candid, still cheeky, invitation to go into them to grasp their real essence.
